Supporting Decentralisation in Libya – closed

We supported local governance and decentralisation in Libya by coordinating in-depth legal research on the legal gaps, contradictions as well as opportunities to consolidate coherent decentralisation process in the country. The project aimed to contribute to increased efficiency and effectiveness of public administration and service delivery at both sub-national and national levels and to enhance accountability and transparency in the decentralisation process.

This project was held in cooperation with the Libyan authorities and, especially as main interlocutor, the Ministry of Local Government of Tripoli’s Government recognised by the international community, the main stakeholder on decentralisation in Libya. The project was coordinated by ILAC and funded by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ).  Activities closed in late 2022.
