ILAC Participates in 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly

General Assembly Meeting Room, United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA.

ILAC will send a high-level delegation to attend the 72nd Session in the United Nations General Assembly at the United Nations headquarters in New York starting today. ILAC’s delegation has been invited to join the g7+ to discuss “Accelerating Progress toward SDG 16 – Vision of Access to Justice for All in Conflict Affected Countries,” an event organised by the Permanent Mission of Sierra Leone, Chair of g7+, Timor-Leste, and the g7+ Secretariat.

The General Assembly side-event will provide an opportunity for the g7+ ministers of justice to share their views on addressing priority needs and challenges for the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 16.

ILAC’s delegation to New York includes Board Member, Nina Lahoud, and Executive Director, Agneta Johansson.

In July 2017, ILAC participated in the g7+ technical meeting in Lisbon where members discussed lessons learned on SDG 16 and equal access justice, among other issues.

ILAC has worked with many g7+ countries including –  the Central African Republic, Haiti, Iraq, Liberia, and Timor-Leste.

The g7+ is a voluntary association of countries that are or have been affected by conflict and are now in transition to the next stage of development. The group gives a collective voice to conflict-affected states, and a platform for learning and support between member countries. G7+ comprises 20 countries and advocates for peace, justice and governance, and the ownership of sustainable development by fragile and conflict-affected states. The principles promoted by the g7+ served as the basis for Sustainable Development Goal 16 and were widely integrated throughout the Agenda 2030.
