ILAC is pleased to welcome the World Justice Project as one of our rule of law member organisations. Represented by Joel Martinez, Engagement Director of the World Justice Project’s, the organisation was elected to join ILAC at our 2019 Annual General Meeting, recently hosted by our member The Law Society in London, United Kingdom.
The World Justice Project is an international non-governmental multidisciplinary organisation, dedicated to increasing knowledge, expanding awareness, and stimulating change to advance the rule of law. World Justice Project’s efforts to support the global rule of law movement are focused in three areas:
1. Collecting, organising, and analysing original, independent rule of law data, including the World Justice Project Rule of Law Index; The Index represents the world’s most comprehensive dataset of its kind and the only to rely principally on survey-based primary data, measuring countries’ adherence to the rule of law worldwide. The Index is relied upon by a wide range of public and private sector actors, including USAID, the US State Department, the European Commission, the World Bank and the OECD;
2. Supporting research, scholarship, and teaching about the importance of rule of law, its relationship to development, and effective strategies to strengthen it; and
3. Connecting and building an engaged global network of policy-makers and activists to advance the rule of law through strategic partnerships, convenings, knowledge exchanges, coordinated advocacy, and support for locally-led initiatives.
We are honoured to become a member of ILAC’s global rule of law consortium and to contribute to the international dialogue on justice sector reform and strengthening the rule of law, said Elizabeth Andersen, Executive Director of the World Justice Project.
ILAC’s strength is in its members. Due to our broad and extensive membership, we can engage anywhere in the world and respond to requests for legal expertise or practitioners in all legal fields and subjects.
Our organisation is comprised of more than 80 legal organisations and individual members representing over 3 million legal professionals worldwide – judges, lawyers, prosecutors, and court administrators – who routinely apply rule of law principles as part of their daily practice in a variety of contexts and cultures.
The World Justice Project is a welcome addition to ILAC as an international leader on researching and fostering effective ways to advance the rule of law, stated Agneta Johansson, Executive Director of ILAC.
