Hans Corell

Hans Corell is an Honorary Member of ILAC. He is a distinguished Swedish legal expert and diplomat. He served in various courts in Sweden from 1962 to 1972 before joining the Department of Justice, where he became head of the department. From 1984 to 1994, Corell worked with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as ambassador and head of the legal department, followed by a decade as the UN Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs. He also chaired the Raoul Wallenberg Institute in Lund from 2006 to 2012.

Corell was part of Sweden’s UN delegation and contributed to international organizations like the Council of Europe, OECD, and OSCE. He co-authored the proposal for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and represented the Secretary-General at the Rome Conference for the ICC. He holds honorary law degrees from Stockholm and Lund Universities.
