It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Samir Annabi on July 9, 2020, after a long illness.
Born in 1944, Mr Annabi was a very well-respected Tunisian lawyer and an individual member of ILAC. With law degrees from Tunisia, France and the USA he became a lawyer in the Tunis Bar in 1969 and has a long and distinguished legal carrier behind him. Mr Annabi played a significant role in strengthening the Tunisian justice system during the transition period after the Tunisian revolution in 2011 and became the Head of the anti-corruption agency in 2012.
Mr Annabi has been instrumental to the development of ILAC’s work in Tunisia and has been our advisor, colleague and dear friend since we were invited to Tunisia in 2011. His vision for a democratic society built on the rule of law will continue to encourage us in our work, and he will be deeply missed.
