On 24 January, ILAC and the Tunisian Ministry of Justice, signed a 3-year agreement on the continuation of the program “Training of Tunisian Judges”.
This program, which is funded by Swedish Sida, and implemented by the CEELI Institute and IBA, has been running since April 2012, aiming to reach all of Tunisias 1800 judges. So far some 900 judges have been participating in the training.
– Sweden is a true supporter and partner in the democratic process in Tunisia”, Mr Nadhir Ben Ammou, Minister of Justice, stated at the signing of the new agreement. ”We see a discreet and very efficient partner in ILAC”.
Mr Christian Åhlund, Executive Director of ILAC, welcomed the new agreement giving ILAC and its partners the opportunity of going into the second phase of the program. In his remarks at the ceremony, Christian Åhlund stated:
– On behalf of ILAC and all my colleagues, I would like to say how impressed we are with the professionalism and the efficiency shown by our friends in the Ministry – and with the high standard of the Tunisian judges. ILAC is looking forward with enthusiasm and optimism to the continuation and the consolidation of our cooperation – in parallell with Tunisia´s development towards a strong and stable democracy.
The training of Tunisian judges is a part of ILACs Rule of Law Programme for the Middle East and North Africa 2014-2016. ILAC was first invited to Tunisia just weeks after the uprising in 2011. Read more about our work in Tunisia.
