As of 1 March, Agneta Johansson, is the new Executive Director of ILAC, replacing Christian Åhlund, who is now retiring from office after holding that position since 2002.
Agneta Johansson is a lawyer, specialized in international law and human rights law and has worked with these issues in different capacities; in civil society organizations like the Swedish Red Cross and International Commission of Jurists but also at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
After the Balkan wars Agneta served three years in Bosnia mainly as the Head of the Department of Missing Persons and Exhumations within the Office of the High Representative in Sarajevo. Agneta has also worked several years in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
Agneta Johansson has also been a board member of the Swedish organisation Kvinna till Kvinna for many years and is presently on the board and the jury of the Right Livelihood Award. She has lectured extensively on international law and human rights in the Swedish Police Academy, Swedish Military Academy as well as in universities both in Sweden and in several other countries.
Agneta Johansson has also been the Deputy Director of ILAC since 2002.
