Shelby Quast was ILAC USA Director-General during 2002–2013. Quast is a renowned advocate for the rule of law, gender justice, women’s rights, peace and security, and the global Sustainable Development Goals. With over 30 years of experience, she has focused extensively on girls’ rights across various regions, including South Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the United States, as well as at the United Nations. Quast has collaborated with policymakers worldwide to combat FGM/C and provide support to survivors, engaging in strategic litigation and submitting amicus briefs to courts such as the African Court of Human Rights, the ECOWAS Court of Human Rights, and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. She has also supported FGM/C litigation in the US, India, and Australia.
