Richard Joseph Goldstone is a South African retired judge who served in the Constitutional Court of South Africa from July 1994 to October 2003. He was the first to receive a Stockholm Human Rights Award in 2009, a joint initiative of the International Bar Association, the International Legal Assistance Consortium, and the Swedish Bar Association.
After retiring, he became a visiting professor at several U.S. law schools. From August 1994 to September 1996, he was the chief prosecutor for the United Nations International Criminal Tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda. Goldstone holds honorary memberships with the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Additionally, he is an Honorary Bencher of the Inner Temple in London, an Honorary Fellow of St. John’s College, Cambridge, and an honorary life member of the International Bar Association, where he also serves as Honorary President of its Human Rights Institute.
