Mikael Ekman is a Legal Adviser with the Assessments and Legal Analysis Department at ILAC. He works on policy dialogue and assessment issues with a current focus on the Palestinian justice system and on rule of law challenges arising from the conflict in Syria. He is currently responsible for ILAC’s assessment methodology development. He was ILAC’s Syria Programme Manager between 2015-2017 and led the ILAC rule of law assessment in Syria. Before joining ILAC, he was the political adviser to the Swedish minister of environment (2012-2015) and in the European Parliament (2010-2012), as well as legal assistant in the Issa Sesay defence team in the Special Court for Sierra Leone (2008-2009). Mr Ekman holds an LL.M. in International Human Rights Law and International Criminal Law from Lund University and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute.
